Interview with JAMES ROPER:

Your childhood ambition:

Animator.

Something you treasure:

My old sketchbooks and notebooks.

Your worst habit:

Daydreaming when people are talking to me.

The aspect of your work that’s most important to you:

I wouldn’t single anything out, each element is important to the work. I think the viewer needs to be holistic in the way they approach any piece of art, taking into account not only the artwork but why the artist produced it and under what circumstance, context is everything for me.

Your first job:

Working in the fields of a tree nursery.

Someone whose work you highly recommend:

Damien Loeb. Look up images of his new studio, he’s like a James Bond villain.
